Please see below the role descriptions for jobs available for the ball, which will be held on the 20th June 2023 from 7pm to 6am with paid breaks during the night and one hour paid training in the week before the ball. Successful applicants will be invited to interview in the first week of Lent term using the email you provide. We will be paying workers at least the Cambridge living wage. Fire Steward (£10.90 per hour)
This role involves ensuring all rules and regulations are adhered to by the guests, including observing health and safety aspects such as flow of traffic, any evacuations if needed, and preventing overcrowding. Fire stewards will support the professional security team ensure the safety of all guests and workers. While relevant experience is useful, training will be provided the week before the ball.
Bar Worker (£10.90 per hour)
Bar workers will help professional staff prepare and serve drinks or form the student-run bars at the ball. Workers will need to cope well under pressure and work well with others at their bar while maintaining good relations with guests. Previous bartending experience would be advantageous.
Food/Drink Server (£10.90 per hour)
Servers will help serve food to some of the dining guests, serve champagne to guests upon arrival, or work at and stock the food and drink stalls within the ball. Servers will need to work well in a team, be organised, and maintain good relations with guests and external catering companies. Experience in hospitality would be beneficial, but not mandatory.
Workers in senior positions will be in charge of their own team of workers and a key aspect of the ball. They will need to liaise with each other and the committee to ensure everything runs smoothly. Good adaptability, communication, and decision-making skills are essential, and these will be high-pressured roles. Since these roles are senior they are being paid as bulk sums to complete the full duties of the role over the course of the ball.
Senior Supervisor (£226.20)
The senior supervisor will direct and organise the other supervisors and group leaders, providing an overarching control of the ball and ensuring the wellbeing of both supervisors and workers under their control. Previous leadership experience is much preferred.
Set-Up Supervisor (£139.20)
The set-up supervisor will organise the assembling of the ball by overseeing our team of set-up workers on the afternoon of the 20th June. They will hand over to the senior supervisor at the end of their shift, and it is important that this transition goes smoothly so the ball can start up without problems. Previous leadership experience is much preferred.
Clean-Up Supervisor (£139.20)
The clean-up supervisor will take over from the second-half senior supervisor after the end of the ball, at 6:00. They will supervise the dismantling of the ball by the clean-up team. Previous leadership experience is much preferred.
Court Supervisor (£191.10)
Court supervisors will each be in charge of what goes on in their court, including making sure workers are where they are needed, looking after the wellbeing of the workers in their court, and ensuring all stalls are operating smoothly. Previous leadership experience is much preferred.
Bar Manager (£176.80)
Bar managers are responsible for coordinating the student-run bars, ensuring bars are well-stocked and have a sufficient number of workers at times of high demand. Previous hospitality experience is much preferred.
Recycling Leader (£176.80)
The recycling leader is in charge of the recycling workers. They will make sure their workers understand what they are doing and oversee this aspect of the waste disposal in the ball. Organisation and communication will be essential here, and previous leadership experience is much preferred.
Hit Squad Leader (£176.80)
The hit squad leader will be in charge of the more mobile hit squad, directing their workers to where they are most needed in a job that requires high organisation and communication skills as they will need to respond quickly to the needs of the other departments. Previous leadership experience is much preferred.
Fire Steward Leader (£176.80)
The fire steward leader is in charge of student fire stewards throughout the night. They will need to ensure workers are where they should be when they should be so that all workers can take their designated breaks on time while ensuring the safety of all involved at the ball. Prior experience is much preferred.
